Q. I'm curious to know what your position is on the military and on military spending. Granted, in an ideal world, there would be no war and, thus, no need for a military. This, as we all know, is not the case. I know that the Libertarian Party as a whole favors reducing military spending. This is, of course, legitimate, but wouldn't you agree that at present a strong (but not unnecessarily massive) military is the safest and best bet? So, how do you stand on armed forces finance and maintenance?

A. Most Libertarians including myself believe that one of the functions of the federal government is to provide for defense and security of our country. Having been in the Army myself and having a college minor in Military Science, I know that the best defense is a good offense. The question is where does one draw the line between making a good offense a good defense. You can read my position on U.S. Security Policy and the Defense Budget by clicking on these active links.
