Dear John:

Thank you for your opposition to the death penalty. I pretty much consider myself an objectivist, and I was saddened (but not surprised) to see an article in the last issue of [forgot title] from The Objectivist Center by Bob Biddinotto about the morality of the death penalty.

My objections to the death penalty are twofold. It presumes a perfectability in the administration of justice that is not humanly possible. And if we really want to live in a society where the use of force is minimzed, the government, as monopolist on the legitimate use of force, must minimize its use of force. Libertarians claim that all our government can and should do is set an example for other nations, not intervene in their affairs. Our government should proclaim that killing will not be tolerated--then set a powerful example within our nation by stopping its killing of people in the name of justice.

Thanks for all your great efforts.
