Bringing logic and rationality to local government
"The road to hell is paved with good intentions." So wrote F.A. Hayek in his famous book, The Road to Serfdom. Many times state politicians and local officials, in their desire to please people, pass laws and ordinances without thinking (because many times it's impossible to know) about the unintended consequences of their actions.
For example, tax abatements are given to one landowner or developer to "bring jobs into a community," however, it forces another landlord to loose tenants to the tax abated property because now a competitor has lower rents.
Central Ohio Forum is a grassroots organization to educate the public, local elected officials and politicians as to why it is not wise to tinker with the laws of basic economics. We exist to:
1. Invite renown free market and classical liberal speakers to Columbus for luncheons and dinners.
2. Provide a place where people can report actual examples of unintended consequences.
3. Show how free market solutions to local problems are best rather than using government to solve problems.
4. Bring logic and rationality to local government by acting as a resource that local officials can use.
